Storm wind farms in the snow.

19 Feb 2021

Although we think our wind farms always look beautiful, it is not often that they look so magical. During the night of Saturday 6 to Sunday 7 February, a thick blanket of snow fell, covering large parts of Flanders. During the following week, it remained bitterly cold and we were treated to a lovely winter sun too; the perfect occasion to send our in-house photographer out on the road to produce a photo reportage of our construction sites and wind farms.

When it's this cold, there's a big chance you'll see one of our wind turbines standing still. Each wind turbine is equipped with an ice detection system. As soon as there is a risk of ice formation on the blades, the wind turbine stops. If this happens, a colleague from Storm heads to the scene to visually check if the blades are ice-free. Only after this has happened can the wind turbines be restarted.

The following photos were taken in, among other places, Minderhout, Ghent, Zandvliet, Wachtebeke and at the construction sites in Retie and Meer.
