Storm Fund is providing 100,000 euros in support to 11 sustainable local projects

21/4/26

First call for proposals in collaboration with the King Baudouin Foundation: organizations near Storm wind farms will receive up to 10,000 euros per project

The Storm Fund, established last year in collaboration with the King Baudouin Foundation, has selected 11 organizations across Belgium following its first call for proposals. These organizations will receive support to implement a sustainable project in the vicinity of an existing Storm wind farm. The independent jury evaluated the submitted proposals based on sustainable impact, collaboration, and originality. A total of 100,000 euros will be awarded to support initiatives such as a community garden for young people and those living in poverty, a cycling project for schoolchildren, a water testing garden, and the purchase of a neighborhood shuttle.

Creating Local Impact

In 2025, Storm launched a corporate philanthropy fund managed by the King Baudouin Foundation, with an initial call for proposals in more than 30 Belgian municipalities. Thanks to the Fund, Storm can also fulfill its mission to accelerate the energy transition at the local level and is taking its social responsibility even more seriously. Organizations in the vicinity of a Storm wind farm were given the opportunity to submit a proposal for a local, sustainable project related to energy, mobility, or biodiversity.

Sustainable rainwater management, neighborhood mobility, and the fight against the Asian hornet

The numerous applications received were carefully reviewed by an independent jury, which evaluated the projects based on their sustainable impact, long-term results, ability to bring people together, and the extent to which they demonstrated creativity or innovation. In total, 11 local organizations received funding to carry out their projects:

  • - Garden of Connection, Forest of Experience by Buso Tongerlo: a community garden for young people with autism and people living in poverty, in collaboration with the Westerlo Public Social Welfare Center.
  • - A Bike for Every Child by Polderhart vzw in Berendrecht: a bicycle project for schoolchildren.
  • - Nature Education at Dwergenbergen and Mollenhoeve by Regionaal Landschap de Voorkempen in Zoersel: nature conservation and education through games and activities focused on water, soil, and biodiversity.
  • - A green space for the Courrière Scouts to create an ecological and educational environment.
  • - Boost for the Winterslag Community Garden by SAAMO Limburg in Genk: a community garden and social vegetable garden, a green meeting and learning space under the guidance of experts.
  • - A water testing garden by Waterland vzw in Lokeren: a green-blue meeting place in collaboration with JNM Durmeland and Navicula.
  • - Sustainable water storage and fruit trees at the D’n Goeien Oard community garden complex in Neerpelt.
  • - A green playground for the Saint-Martin school in Assesse.
  • - A neighborhood mobile at De Wal, a residential site for adults with disabilities in Wondelgem via vzw Kompas.
  • - A Wonder Forest, or biodiverse meeting place, in Schendelbeke through the Schendelbeke Village Council.
  • - A project called “Buiten Gewone Buurtkracht” to combat the Asian hornet together and thus protect biodiversity in Berendrecht, organized by Bijeen vzw.

New Call for Proposals in 2026

The Storm Fund is committed to a minimum five-year period in order to achieve a positive impact in the areas surrounding the energy projects. Therefore, a second call for proposals will follow in September 2026, to which non-profit organizations—whether or not in collaboration with the municipality—can apply. New this year is that the areas surrounding the battery parks currently under construction in Langerlo and Ruien are also eligible, as are the new wind farms we are currently developing in Knokke, Mourcourt, and Rumillies.
