Storm enters into partnership with Eneco for the optimisation of battery parks in Ruien and Langerlo
Storm has entered into a major partnership agreement with Eneco for the commercial and operational optimisation of its two large-scale battery parks currently under construction in Langerlo and Ruien.
Together, the two projects represent 300 MW of battery capacity and 1,200 MWh of energy storage. They will rank among the largest battery storage projects in Belgium and, once operational in 2027, will play an important role in increasing the flexibility and stability of the Belgian electricity grid.
Under the agreement, Eneco will be responsible for the commercial and operational optimisation of both battery parks for a period of ten years. By optimising the batteries across the various energy markets, surplus renewable electricity can be stored more efficiently and made available again when demand is high. In this way, the battery parks will help balance the electricity grid and support the further integration of renewable energy sources such as wind and solar power.
The partnership brings together the expertise of both companies. Storm develops and delivers renewable energy projects that accelerate the energy transition, while Eneco has extensive experience in optimising flexible battery assets. By combining their strengths, both companies are taking another step towards a smarter, more reliable and more sustainable energy system.
The lithium-ion batteries for both projects will be supplied and installed by Tesla.
The Langerlo battery park will have a capacity of 100 MW and 400 MWh of energy storage. The Ruien battery park will be twice as large, with a capacity of 200 MW and 800 MWh of storage. From 2027 onwards, both facilities will contribute to a more efficient use of renewable energy and a more resilient Belgian electricity grid.
